Worship at the Altar of Edward Repka

Behold the Master.

Edward Repka may not be a name that you are familiar with, but I guarantee that any reader of this blog has seen his artwork at least once in their lifetime. He is primarily known for doing album covers. Repka came to prominence in the late 1980's, and brought many thrash and death metal albums to life. He started winding down in the 90's, as he got a lot of design work from Dave Mustaine/Megadeth, and also got involved in toy design among other things.

I absolutely love just about every single album cover that Ed Repka has done. Each one tells a story all by itself. Since I've always been a fan of post-apocalypse, zombies and destruction stories, I see a B-movie formulating in my brain every single time I look at Repka's artwork.

Repka still does album covers from time to time. If I were in a thrash metal band, I would never consider taking my band seriously until we had a Repka album cover. Anything less would be failure.

Here's a list of my favorite Repka album covers. There's a lot more that aren't pictured here, but these are the ones that really stand out in my mind. For the sake of satisfying my OCD issues, I've organized them by year. Enjoy the art gallery!

  1. Such talent! I recognize many of the album covers you posted and always wondered who drew them or got the idea. I LOVE his drawing style!
